Harold Steven Maxwell, age 62, passed away on March 6, 2026, after a long illness. He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit and deep love for his family.
Steve was born on March 26, 1963, in Rockville, Maryland, to Harold and Margie Maxwell. He grew up surrounded by family and carried those strong family values throughout his life. On June 6, 1981, he married the love of his life, Carolyn “Sue” Phillips Maxwell. Their marriage was built on love and dedication to their family.
Steve worked many years as a mason, learning the trade and working alongside his father and brothers. He took pride in his work. He later worked at Tyson Foods in Berryville, Arkansas, for five years.
In his free time, Steve enjoyed NASCAR races, dirt track racing, football, hunting, bowling, and playing horseshoes. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Maxwell; his daughter, Melinda Maxwell; and his son, Gaven Maxwell, all of Berryville, Arkansas. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Peyton and wife Courtney of Bergman, Arkansas, and Jasmine, Taven, Kendall, Eliza, Blade, and Creed of Berryville, Arkansas.
Steve is also survived by his siblings: Norman and wife Rosemary of Parsons, West Virginia; Becky and partner Ron; Janet and husband Leroy; Thom and spouse Jay of Ohio; Chuck and wife Kim; Kenny and wife Leeann of Tennessee; Mollie and husband Christopher McCormick of Beckley, West Virginia; Tammy and husband Jim Weismann of Texas; and Jeff and wife Michelle of Beckley, West Virginia. Many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind honorary family member Steve Cleffman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Margie Maxwell; daughter Michele Maxwell; son Brenton Maxwell; grandparents; sister-in-law Kathy; nephew Scotty Parks; father-in-law Edgar Phillips; mother-in-law Goldie May Phillips; and sisters-in-law Rose Shawyer and Eva Fravel.
