James Lester “Jim” Flanagan, age 78 years, a resident of St. George, WV departed this life Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the United Hospital Center at Bridgeport, WV, with his family by his side. He had been in declining health for the past several months and death was attributed to pneumonia.
He was born Friday, May 14, 1937 at Hendricks, WV, a son of the late Paul and Leecy Fay Rennix Flanagan. On January 18, 1998 at St. George, WV, he was married to the former Priscilla Ann Nestor, who survives. Also surviving are five stepsons, Mike Shaffer and wife Sandy and Ronnie Shaffer and wife Ellen, all of St. George, Karl Dotson of Long Beach, CA and Frank Dotson, Jr. and wife Christina of St. George and John McTheney of CA; four step daughters, Ann Brown and husband Bob of Spotsylvania, VA, Nancy Dotson of St. George, Julie Pearce and husband Cory of LasVegas, NV and Jennifer McTheney of PA; one brother, Dennis Paul Flanagan and wife Kay of Hendricks; three sisters, Paula Fay Currance and husband David, and Sue Ann Silk and husband Terry, all of Hendricks, Nora Riggleman and husband Sherwood of Charleston; seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are one son, Patrick Craig Flanagan; and one brother, Harper Flanagan.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1956. He was a construction worker and a member of the Washington Area Carpenters Union and an employee of the Jarrett Construction Company, working as the project superintendent. He was a member of the Kiwanis for fifteen years, the Knights of Columbus for thirty years, and an active volunteer with Hospice Care Corporation and a member of the St. George United Methodist Church.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final Rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Don Knotts and The Rev. Brad Barton officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.
