Joan Susan Pires Lipscomb, age 78 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life Saturday morning, September 11, 2021, at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, WV. Death was unexpected.
She was born Saturday, December 19, 1942, at New Bedford, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Horace “Bud” Pires and Evelyn Aquiar Pires.
Surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Ann Lipscomb Day and husband Bill of Parsons and Susan Lee Lipscomb of Leadmine; one sister Patricia Ann Sandusky and husband Steve of Enterprise, FL; four grandchildren, Dora G. Day Nelson and husband Andy, Rorry I. Day, Welsey Allen Nestor and Emily Michelle Nestor; and one great granddaughter, Cali Callis.
She was a graduate of Nuernburg High School at Nuernburg, Germany. She served on the Board of Directors for Women’s Aid in Crisis based in Randolph County and was an E.M.T since 1975 in Tucker County and in 1976 she served as Chief Dispatcher for the Tucker County Commission. She was the last surviving member of the original E.M.S. staff. She was a former employee of Sheetz of Parsons. Joan was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Parsons. Joan was a dear friend to many and had a kind and loving heart.
The family will receive friends at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church of Parsons, WV on Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 9 to 11 a.m. On Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church, the Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated. The Reverend Father Martin Smay will be the Presider. Interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.
