John Clarence “Chief” Helmick

John Clarence “Chief” Helmick, 47, a resident of Hambleton, passed from this life on Monday, March 19, 2018.  He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.


John was born on Sunday, March 14, 1971, in Parsons, the son of Junior Paul Helmick, and Charlotte Faye Foster Helmick of Mt. Zion who survives.

Also left to cherish John’s memory are two brothers, JR Helmick and wife Tammy of Parsons and David Helmick and wife Kelly of Hambleton, one nephew, Trenton, three nieces, Macy, Kennide and Maddy.

Proceeding John in death was paternal grandparents Clarence and Helen Helmick and maternal grandparents, John and Iris Foster.  Also proceeding him in death was his friend and cousin, Scott Helmick.

John was a 1989 graduate of Tucker County High School.  John was employed by the Parsons Texaco, Camp Horseshoe, Canaan Valley Ski Resort, Hinchcliff Lumber, Helmick Construction, North Central WV Community Action, Helmick Masonry, Statewide Granite and Hamrick Public Service.  John was an avid hunter, a Pittsburgh Steeler and WVU fan and loved Nascar racing.  John also loved riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle on the weekends with his friends.  He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by his family and friends.

Visitation was held at Hostetler Funeral Home on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m.  Funeral services was held at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 11: a.m. with Rev Eli Hostetler officiating.  At John’s request, the casket remained closed and cremation was honored.  The Hostetler Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for John Clarence “Chief” Helmick.  Send online condolences to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com.
