Lavera Edith Wotring Kelley

Lavera Edith Wotring Kelley, 95, a resident of Shaffertown, passed from this life on Sunday, August 23, 2020, at the home of her daughter, Judy Hile surrounded by her family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.

Lavera was born on Sunday, July 5, 1925, in Leadmine, a daughter of the late Harvey “Lee” Wotring and Judith Almeda Lipscomb Wotring. On August 24, 1946, at Oakland, MD, she married Theodore “Jake” Kelley who preceded her in death.

Left to cherish Lavera’s memory are three children, Marilyn Phillips, Judith R. Hile and husband, Terry, Lee A. Kelley and wife, Cindy, one sister, Prema Kines, seven grandchildren, Mark Phillips, Kellie Crosten and husband, Greg, Jeremy Hile and wife, Amanda, Heather Lantz and husband, Wesley, Cole Kelley, Cullen Kelley, and Corey Kelley; eight great grandchildren, Ethan Crosten, Emily Crosten, Mark Phillips, Jr., Maricay Phillips, Rachel Hile, Gracie Hile, Luke Lantz and Elaina Lantz, a sister-in-law, Delores “Tootsie” Kelley, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Lavera was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Roger Phillips.

Lavera graduated Parsons High School with the class of 1942. She was a homemaker that enjoyed crocheting, reading, and making prayer shawls and afghans which she shared with others. Lavera was an active member of the Leadmine United Methodist Church for sixty-five plus years. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, and past president of the United Methodist Women. Above all, Lavera loved her family so very much and will be sadly missed.

Visitation was held at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 1 p.m. Pastor Brad Barton will officiate, and interment will follow at the Shaffertown Cemetery on Horseshoe Run Road. The family requests that contributions in Lavera’s memory be made to the Leadmine U.M. Church, c/o of Karen Hockman, PO Box 92, Parsons, WV.
