Martha Jean Sturms Simmons

MarthaJeanSimmonsMartha Jean Sturms Simmons, age 71 years, a resident of the Pheasant Mountain Road, Kerens, WV departed this life Tuesday evening, January 6, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Death was attributed to cancer.

She was born Friday, April 2, 1943 at Meadowville, WV a daughter of the late Howard Wilson and Alpha Elizabeth Jones Sturms. She was married to Woodrow Douglas “Doug” Simmons, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Christopher Douglas Simmons, Sr. of Randolph County; one sister, Mary Swartz Snyder and husband Don of Parsons; two half-sisters, Sheila and Nancy “Joy”, both of OH; one step brother, Ronnie James of OH; one step sister, Brenda; one grandson Christopher Douglas Simmons, Jr.; and two great grandchildren, Amiya Christine Simmons and Coalten Ballis.

Preceding her in death is step mother, Mary Simmons Sturms, one brother, Danny Edward Sturms and one step sister, Ruth Lee.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1961, where she was a majorette with the Marching Band. She was a former employee of Bata Shoe Company of Beverly and the Optical Hut of Elkins. She was a member of the Bata Shoe Company Bowling League. She enjoyed camping and had a passion for gardening and flowers.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Final Rites were conducted at the funeral home, Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Verl Simmons officiated and interment followed at the American Legions Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, WV. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Martha Jean Sturms Simmons. Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com
