Mildred G. (Bennett) Mincsik, 91, or “Millie” as most knew her, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away peacefully,
Sunday, January 3, 2016. She had been residing at Transitions Nursing Home in Gettysburg after living with diabetes for many years.
Born in Parsons, WV on January 9, 1924, Millie was the daughter of the late Chester and Londa Bennett. She was the beloved wife of George Mincsik for over 64 ‘wonderful’ years.
Millie and her husband George owned many successful family businesses over the years. They included The Dunbar Market (15 years) and Poplar Place Hardware (20 years) in Dundalk, MD, and then started Mil-G-Farm Antiques at their farm in Gettysburg, PA in 1972 which continued for over 40 years. Throughout their many years in business, what they treasured most were the many special friends and acquaintances they met while mixing business with pleasure. They enjoyed travelling and antiquing throughout the continental United States. They only missed Iowa; they simply ran out of time plus all the buildings on their farm were already FULL of antiques!
Millie also enjoyed cooking and spending time entertaining her family. Everyone loved coming up to ‘the farm’ to visit. They enjoyed many trips with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well. “Granny” loved spoiling all of her grandchildren.
Her generosity, work ethic and patience remain an example for all of us. She continues to live on by teaching us to care for others just as she did for us.
In addition to her husband George, Millie (“Granny”) is survived by her five grandchildren, their spouses and children: Daneille and Randy Eddy (Emily) of Easton, NY, Scott Koenig (Scotty and Brent) of Baltimore, MD, Manette and Doug Eddy (Kyle and Shawn) of Brunswick, NY, Amy and Robin Archer (Violet) of New Zealand, Courtnee and Todd Cutler (Samantha) of Colonie, NY. She is also survived by her brother, Calvin Bennett of Elkins, West Virginia.
Millie was predeceased by her daughter Carol S. Barsalou, a sister Juanita “Skeet” Quattro, and brothers Carlton, Herbert, and Donald Bennett.
Millie was an active member of the Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church. She also served as President of the Gettysburg Antique Dealers Association for many years.
Relatives and friends were invited to call at the church, Thursday, January 7 at 10 a.m. the funeral service to followed at 12 p.m.
Rev. Troy C. Morgan will officiate and interment will follow at the Lower Marsh Creek cemetery. The Monahan Funeral Home of Gettysburg is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Transitions Nursing Home, special friends, and neighbors on Weikert Road that assisted George, Millie and her family with extraordinary care and compassion over the years.
