Nellie Dorinda Reed Crossland

Nellie Dorinda Reed Crossland, 100, of Davis, WV died December 10, 2016 at the home of her nephew, Kenny and wife Roberta Reed of Fairmont, WV. She was born March 6, 1916 in Canaan Valley, WV a daughter of the late Lindsey and Addie Burton Yokum Reed. Also preceding her in death were her husband; Hubert Ray Crossland, four brothers; Willy D. Reed, Lindsey Reed, Jr., Kelly Reed and Marvin Reed, three sisters; Helen G. Adams, Ina Mae Grecco and Margaret Burton Gainer. Survivors include one brother; Randall R. Reed of Canaan Valley, WV and a host of nieces and nephews.
Nellie was married to Hubert Ray Crossland on August 11, 1936 in the Gnegy Church by Rev. Ezra Fike. Nellie was a school teacher in Tucker County schools for 371/2 years. She taught in Davis, Thomas, Sugarlands, Canaan, Limestone and Stringtown schools. She retired from teaching when her husband Hubert became ill to care for him until his death on July 1, 1988. She joined the Davis United Methodist Church in 1951 and taught Sunday school classes for many years. She was a member of United Methodist Women, WV Retired Teachers Association, O.E.S. Chapter #43, Parsons VFW Women’s Auxillary and AAUW. The family would like to thank Eileen and Clarence Wilfong for their faithful service of helping Nellie in her later years and to Hospice for their kindness in the past few weeks.
Friends were received on Tuesday Dec. 13, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at Davis United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Dec. 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Davis United Methodist Church with Rev. Neil Parsons officiating. Interment will follow in the Buena Cemetery, Canaan Valley.
