NormanAbelLongNormanAbelLong2Norman Abel Long, age 89 years, a resident of the Brooklyn Heights Community, Parsons, WV departed this life early Wednesday morning, September 16, 2015 at the home of his granddaughter, Missy Jones of the Holly Meadows Community, Parsons WV and under the care of Hospice Care Corporation.

He was born Sunday, July 18, 1926 at Hendricks, WV, a son of the late Riley Martin and Izzy Ora Fridley Long. On August 15, 1953 at Oakland, MD, he was married to the former Cleta Mae Cross, who preceded him in death July 8, 2000.

Surviving are one granddaughter, Melissa Ann “Missy” Long Jones and husband Brian, and three great- grandchildren, Briar Scott Heckler, Damion Isaiah Jones and Izabella Marie Jones, all of Parsons, WV; one adopted daughter, Connie Myers of Martinsburg; one brother, Perry Long of Ellamore, WV,; and special family, Mary “Sissy” and Todd Isaacson, Evelyn and Phil Cassidy, Ann and Archie Kerns, Kathy and Jerry Dumire; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is one son, Dennis Norman “Denny” Long; four brothers, Rob Long, Tobe Long, John Long and one infant son and one sister, Pearl Long.

He attended the one room school at Fork Mountain. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a logger and dozer operator for United States Forest Service, until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, spending time in the woods and gardening. Norman adored his time with his great grandchildren.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Adam Snyder officiated and interment followed at the Long Family Cemetery at Otter Creek, WV, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Association conducted full military honors. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Norman Abel Long. Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
