Paul W. Harper, Sr

Paul W. Harper, Sr, 91, a resident of the Moore Community, passed from this life Friday, January 5, 2017 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.


Paul was born on Wednesday, September 1, 1926 in Tucker County, a son of the late Frank Harper and Effie Mae Varner Harper.  He was married for fifty-four years to the former Carol J. Propst who preceded him in death on January 4, 2006.

Left to cherish Paul’s memory are five children, Paul W. “Button” Harper, Jr., Paula J. McDonald and husband, Artie, Richard Harper and wife, Pam, Joseph Harper, all of Parsons, and Betty Pullins and husband, Stu of Columbus, OH, four brothers, Alfred Harper, Billy Harper, Johnny Harper, and Junie Harper, one sister, Arbutis Myers, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren, special family member, Mike Shaffer, and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by one grandchild, Rachel McDonald, one great grandchild, Jarrett Davis, and a special family member, Pat Shaffer.

Paul, also known by many as “Sweetie”, attended the schools of Tucker County, and was an auto mechanic owning his own garage, Harper’s Repair Shop, for over forty years.

Paul’s request for cremation was honored.  A private family graveside service will be held at Bethel Cemetery at a later date.  The Hostetler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Paul Willard Harper, Sr..  Condolences may be made to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com
