Roberta Mae Vance Phillips

RobertaPhillipsRoberta Mae Vance Phillips, age 79 years, a resident of Smokey Hollow, Parsons, WV, departed this life early Saturday morning, September 19, 2015 at Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown, WV, with her family at her side. She had been in declining health.

She was born Tuesday, August 25, 1936 at Parsons, WV, a daughter of the late John Robert and Hilda Mae George Vance. On December 23, 1955 at Baltimore, MD, she was married to Orlan Richard “Poncho” Phillips, Sr., who preceded her in death. They had celebrated fifty years of marriage.

Surviving are five sons, O. Richard “Goose” Phillips of Parsons, Phillip Anthony Phillips and wife Loretta of Davis, Johnathan Jeffery “Beak” Phillips of Parsons, William Joseph “Batson” Phillips and wife April of Parsons, and Thomas Jerry “Klinger” Phillips of NC; three daughters, Mary Helen Triplett of Parsons, Gladys Marie “Peggy” Garcia-Montalvan and husband Joel Antonio of SC, and Shawna Echeverria and husband Pedro of SC; seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death is one great granddaughter, Brook Jennings.

She attended the schools of Tucker County and Tacoma Park, MD. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist of Parsons. She was an employee of the former White Gables of Parsons, the former Donut Shoppe of Elkins, the Highlander Restaurant of Davis, a baker for the Blackwater Falls State Park. She was a flagman for the Labor Union of Clarksburg and she worked for Home Health Care. She was a writer and a naturalist with plants, and very family oriented.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 1:30 p.m Pastor Walter Cardenas will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Roberta Mae Vance Phillips. Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
