Roy Eugene Alkire, age 77 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Thursday morning, January 2, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. He had been in declining health for several years.

He was born Saturday, April 4, 1936 at Moore, WV, a son of the late William “Bill” L. and Lula Margaret Robision Alkire. On Sept. 28, 1959, he was married to the former Dona Gale Poling, who preceded him in death November 11, 2010.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Eugene Alkire and Gary Wayne Alkire, both of Parsons; one daughter, Barbara Gale Alkire Shahan and husband Bill of Pifer Mt.; two brothers, Junior Robision Alkire of Canton, OH, Franklin Daris Alkire and wife Kay of Parsons; four grandchildren, Bill, II, Tyson, Melissa and Stephanie and seven great grandchildren, Tyler, Trystan, Hannah, Haley, Hadley, Abigayle and Chase.

Preceding him in death are three brothers, James Alkire, Ray Alkire and Terrance Michael Alkire; three sisters, Ruby Sherry, Donna Lambert and Edna Alkire and two half sisters, Ethel Howell and Goldie Clevenger.

He attended the schools of Tucker County. He worked in various sawmills, the Chesapeake Paper Board in Maryland and was a coalminer for the Dobbins Mines in WV.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Carolyn Shreve and Rev. James Gilbert officiated and interment l followed at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George, WV. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Roy Eugene Alkire. Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
