Shirley Alice Colbert, 87, of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at United Hospital Center, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 29, 1939, in Parsons, a daughter of the late Ronald Clyde and Helen Marjorie Hebb Miller. Shirley was a graduate of Parsons High School, Class of 1958.
Throughout her life, Shirley was known for her love of family, her strong faith, and her enjoyment of bringing people together. For many years, she owned and operated her own flower shop, Shirley’s Euphoria, in Henderson, North Carolina. Her creativity and love of flowers allowed her to be part of many special moments in the lives of others.
Shirley’s faith was an important part of her life. She attended Word of Life Assembly of God Church, where she treasured worshiping, singing, counseling and being an active part of her church family. She found great joy in the fellowship and friendships she shared there.
Above all, Shirley’s greatest joy was her family. She loved family gatherings, celebrations, and any opportunity that brought everyone together. Time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family was especially precious to her. At home, she also enjoyed watching Forensic Files and Judge Judy.
Shirley is survived by her five children, Vicki L. Wingfield, Pamela Sue Britton and husband Michael, Constance Jo Beatty and Greg Greaver, Gary Ronald Colbert Jr. and wife Tonya, and Michelle E. Colbert and Scott Jones; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Collins and Karen Simmons and husband Ron; sister-in-law, Linda Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Ronald Colbert, who passed away on August 15, 2025; and one brother, Ronald “Butch” Miller Jr.
Shirley will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her active faith, her love of singing and fellowship, and the happiness she found whenever those she loved were gathered together. Her life was centered on faith and family, and the memories she created with both will be lovingly carried on by those who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Shirley’s Life at Word of Life Assembly of God Church, 60 Gawthrop Lane, Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The service will begin at noon, with Pastor George Mesto, Pastor David Masto, and Pastor Julian Galford officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service and continue until 5:00 p.m.
