William Arnold Knotts

William Arnold Knotts, 80, a resident of the Horseshoe Run Community near Parsons and more recently a resident of Thomas, passed from this life Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.


William was born on Thursday, May 26, 1938 in Benbush, a son of the late Delton Carl Knotts and Louise Josephine Shambaugh Knotts. On April 5, 1959, at Clinton, OK, he married the former Iola Fay Miller, and they were re-wed at their residence on Horseshoe Run on August 30, 2011. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2013.

Left to cherish William’s memory are are two sons, Craig W. Knotts and wife, Mary of Hedgesville and Warren E. Knotts and wife, Barbara of Fairmont, a daughter, Louise J. Fegel and husband, Justin of Stillwater, OK, five grandchildren, Melinda L. Winston, Kimberly D. Locke, Ciera M. Whitmore, Corie Jo Fegel, and Caden Karl Fegel, four great grandchildren, Hunter Reed Winston, Levi J. Locke, Cole Allen Locke and Leo James Whitmore, two brothers, Delton Carl Knotts, Jr., and wife Wanda, Norman Knotts and wife Gabby, five sisters, Pauline L. Lowther, Arlene Ramsey, Patricia Wilfong and husband, Forrest, and Judith Ternent and husband, Harry, of Lanaconing, MD, and Norma Jones and husband Keith, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding William in death are three sisters, Malora J. Corbin, Adelene E. Snyder, and Karen Knotts, two brothers, Mervin and Clarence Knotts.

William was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1956. He served as an Airman with the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He had worked as a coal miner with Island Creek Coal Company for twenty years retiring in 1996. He had lived for over seventy years on Horseshoe Run having lived on his father’s home place. He was a Methodist by faith.

A visitation was at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 5 until 8 p.m. A funeral service was held from the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. Rev. Philip Dent officiated, and interment followed at Bonnefield Cemetery on Horseshoe Run where members of the Tucker County Veteran’s Association, H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, and Tygarts Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted full military honors. The Hostetler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for William Arnold Knotts. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com.
