Happy New Year! Thanks to everyone who made a year-end donation to Tucker Community Foundation (TCF).
Whether the donation was a gift for friends, family, made to honor the memory of a loved one, or made in support of the work of the Foundation, each gift benefits this wonderful region we live in – forever.
This is an exciting time for TCF – 2014 marks our 25th anniversary! A $5,000 grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and a $1,000 donation from the late George Walburn launched the Foundation in 1989. Twenty five years later TCF manages more than 85 endowed funds that serve an eight county region – and we’re still growing.
Five new funds joined the roster in 2013: three that benefit our neighbors to the north (Preston High School JROTC Fund, Preston High School American Legion Scholarship Fund, and a new Historical Preservation Fund that will be announced soon), and two funds that benefit Tucker County causes (the WVHighlands STArt Fund and the Mountaintop Public Library New Building Fund).
Each year, endowed funds generate more than $137,000 in grants and scholarships. The William Harman Fund is currently producing more than $800,000 annually to benefit entities in the City of Parsons. Ask any recipient of those awards, and they can tell you how your donations are making a difference.
Your support throughout the year, and during the holidays, helps the Foundation grow, and as it grows, so does the impact. Our role in the community has expanded beyond grants and scholarships; in addition to the Food and Farm initiative, Run For It and other program development, the organization continues to partner with other public and private entities to fulfill its mission of creating opportunities for the communities we serve.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, the staff of Tucker Community Foundation, and the communities we serve, THANK YOU! May the year ahead be healthy, happy and full of new adventures.
