People I am sick at heart, I just read a news story of a man allegedly strangling a dog to death with a zip tie. Momma Said, “I am losing faith in the human race.” A caller made a complaint to the Sheriff’s office and said a man had come to his house wanting a gun to put his dog down, even offering 50 cents for the bullet. The caller did not give him a gun so he said he would take care of it another way.
When police arrived they asked him about the dog and he said he had put it down because it would not listen and was chasing chickens. He took police to the place where he buried the dog under a rock and the zip tie was still around the dog’s neck. The poor thing had died a horrible death. From the condition of the dog it was evident that it had struggled. Momma Said, “For these kinds of people vigilante law needs to be brought back and the same thing done to him.”
The dog, a small 15-20 pound white terrier, was said to get loose, not come when called and chasing chickens. If the man did not want the dog doing these things why did he not take it to the shelter and let someone work with it. It was selfish of him to rob the dog of a life when it was his fault the dog was unruly.
Every animal is different and just because he did not get the dog of his dreams he had no cause to kill it. Pets are not a disposable item to just get “RID” of because it doesn’t act the way you think it should. Examine the breed before you acquire an animal and find the quirks and tendencies of the breed. If this man had done so, he would find that the terrier is a hunting breed. They were bred to chase rats and gophers, so it is obvious that anything that moves will be prey. There were many humane things he could have done with the dog than what he allegedly did. Momma Said, “Karma will come back to bite him and I hope it is a big dog doing the biting.”
Easy Apple Crumble without Oats
Ingredients
Apple Filling
- ▢7 cups peeled & chopped apples, 6-7 large or 8-10 small apples, I recommend Granny Smith, Jonagold, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady, cut the apples into 1 inch by 1/2 inch pieces
- ▢½ cup granulated sugar
- ▢¼ cup cornstarch
- ▢1 tsp. cinnamon
- ▢½ tsp. nutmeg
- ▢¼ tsp. salt
Crumble Topping
- ▢1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ▢⅔ cup brown sugar, packed
- ▢1½ tsp. cinnamon
- ▢¼ tsp. salt
- ▢½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
Apple Filling
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF. No need to spray the pan. In your baking dish (you can use a 8×8 inch pan, 8 inch round pan, 9×9 inch pan, 9 inch round pan, 7×11 inch pan, basically you can use any dish that is 2 to 2.5 quarts) combine the apples, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss with a spoon or spatula to combine.
Crumble Topping
- In a mixing bowl combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and melted butter. Use a spatula to mix the crumb. The mixture will be thick and you must stir well (elbow grease!) to combine all the dry ingredients. Continue to combine until the mixture looks wet. It’s okay if the mixture is “sandy” in texture. Use your hands to squeeze clumps together, forcing the mixture together.
- Use your fingers to break the topping into clumps, evenly distributing over the apples.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes. Check to see if the crisp is bubbling and if the topping is golden. If those two things have not occurred, bake for 10-20 additional minutes. The bake time will depend on what size of pan you used. I baked my crisp for 60 minutes in an oval 7×11 inch pan. Allow the crumble to cool for 10-15 minutes. This allows the juices to thicken then serve.
Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream.
