Ah, the Good Ole’ Days, where have they gone? The closest we came to the “Social Media” was the party line on the telephone. You could find out just about anything, about anyone, at anytime.{{more}}
We didn’t have to pay extra, didn’t have to have a password and didn’t have to run around with plugs in our ears. You didn’t have to worry about talking on the phone or texting while driving. You actually got in the car and talked to each other.
Too many machines are already controlling our lives. We can’t operate without having a cell phone glued to our heads, i-pods sticking out of our ears and now we have a car that parks itself. I can’t help but think of the movie “Terminator” with all the machines rising up against humanity. (Which, by the way, was called SkyNet). We have Skype, The Cloud, Twitter, Facebook, cell phones that are evolving so fast that by the time you walk out of the store with the new model, it is already outdated.
I watch some of the survival reality shows they have on TV now and I wonder how many people could actually survive in a hostile environment. Not having any advance notice and suddenly be thrust into a survival situation, I just wonder how long some people could really survive. I have the kind of background that would at least give me a fundamental head start on a lot of people. I don’t think I would starve or freeze to death. Momma Said, “My kid could at least start a fire and be smart enough to build a shelter.”
Some would say, “Oh, that would not be so hard,” but I bet they would not be saying that after a week or so.
Kids need to get outside more and study nature, or at least what is left of it, before it is too late. We have plants and animals on the endangered list that may not be around in another decade or so. It used to take centuries to lose an entire species and now they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Momma Said, “Take care of what you have before it is too late.” I hope this ole planet can keep going, but I just don’t see how it can continue to sustain us at the rate we are going now. Too much pollution, too many people and not enough room to keep everything in harmony.
