Momma Said

On my way to work the other day, I passed an elderly couple parked along the road.  They were riding a three wheeled motorcycle and were looking at a map. Momma Said, “You are never too old to follow your bliss.”  The gentleman caught my eye because he was smoking a pipe.  My granddad smoked a pipe and that is not something you see much these day.  It brought back a lot of memories of him.

He always carried his pipe tobacco in his back pocket until we got a pony.  The pony, (Bucky) seemed to like to eat the tobacco so he would sneak up behind him and tear his pants to get at the tobacco.  He had to start carrying it in his shirt pocket.  Every time I smell pipe tobacco it reminds me of him.

I had a lot of fun on my grandparent’s farm when I was a kid.  Those are memories I hold close to my heart.  The grandparent’s were strict and not very kid friendly, but I managed to stay outside most of the time and make my own fun.  I think those memories are what always triggers me into wanting a farm of my own.  I would love to have a little parcel of land, not have to “work” for a living so I could stay home and play with my animals and work the land.

That has always been my dream and maybe someday before I get to old I will find my own bliss and hold on tight.
