Happy Birthday America!! The year is officially half over and all we have had is rain. I miss good ole summertime when things started in May and you were good to go until fall. It seems any more you can’t plan for anything because of rain ruining everything. I hope everyone enjoys the fireworks because I know my dogs won’t. It would not be so bad if everyone set their fireworks off on the Fourth of July. But everyone around where I live will be setting them off for a week. Momma Said, “I need to find earmuffs for my dogs, maybe I will invent Muttmuffs.”

I might even venture forth this year and see some fireworks myself. I think the last time I went to a fireworks events was with Mom. I went to Washington, DC once a long time ago and saw the fireworks in the Tidal Basin, it was a spectacular show. It does not do justice to see it on TV. Some of the local fire departments around town put on a show so maybe I will give the dogs a tranquilizer and treat myself to the show this year.

Bailey has to have surgery again so I will keep you updated on how she is doing. The doctor doesn’t know if her cancer has come back or if the lump on her neck is a lymphoma. It is in the same area as all her other cancers, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is not bad. She is getting to be an old girl and I just want to give her the best life I can. I will not let any of my animals suffer if I can help it. Momma Said, “It is the guardian’s job to keep everyone healthy and safe.”

I had a visit from my brother last week and he brought his two dogs with him. It was a circus with a Brittney Spaniel, a Border Collie pup, a Golden Retriever and an English Shepherd all in the house together. My brother does not have a fenced yard so when he let his two dogs loose in my yard, they had a blast. I did not think two dogs could run that much. They chased each other around the building like a race track. It was so much fun to watch them being able to play with each other. At his house he has to put one out on a lead and the other stays in the house. So this was a great treat for them. Momma Said, “Freedom is for everyone!”

The Best Glazed Fruit Salad

Ingredients

1 can pineapple, chunks, reserve all the juice

2-3 bananas

1 bunch red seedless grapes

1/2 pt blueberries

1 jar small jar maraschino cherries, drained

any other fruit you would like to add

4 Tbsp sugar

4 tsp cornstarch

4 tsp orange marmalade or apricot preserves

2 tsp lemon juice

Directions

Drain pineapple, reserve all juice.

In a small bowl, combine all your fruit. I always squirt some lemon juice over my bananas before adding so they don’t get brown and yucky looking. Set aside.

In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, and reserved pineapple juice. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer till thickened. Remove from heat and add the marmalade or preserves and the lemon juice.

Let cool for a couple of minutes, then pour the glaze over your fruit and toss gently to coat. Keep in the fridge. It won’t last long!!
