January used to be one of my most dreaded months because it was soooo cold and snowy. Now we are lucky if we even get snow, which would be most preferred to all the rain. With two large longhaired dogs, mud is not my friend. When I get home they must stay outside until I get everything ready, a mound of towels, the shower ready and floor coverings. It is a quick leash loop and a mad dash to the bathroom.
I must do Mudpuppy (AKA Amber) first or she won’t let me catch her. It does not need to be a full bath, just a quick warm rinse to the under carriage. Then it is a full on tug-o-war to get Gracie into the bath. Once she is there she loves it. Momma Said, “Just like a kid, hates the bath but loves to play in the water.” After all that, I have a load of towels to wash and hopefully wash all the mud down the drain so it won’t clog. I just wish it would snow or freeze hard.
I love my animals and I heard from a friend of mine that I have a big fan that loves her animals as well. I would like to say a big Momma Said hello to Mary McGuire and her three rescue kitties. Keep up the good work Mary and get all your friends to get a rescue pet as well. The animals can save you as well as you saving them. I love to hear from people who can associate with my column. It is not anything fancy but just a lot of memories of good times gone by. Most people today cannot grasp the significance of a family dynamic and just having a good time with what you can find available.
We were not dirt poor but we sure got dusty a lot. We were not afraid to go outside and actually play in the dirt and have a great time doing it. Momma Said, “We were healthy kids and besides eating a little dirt never hurt.” I am not ashamed of the way I was raised, it was tough at times but that just made us tougher. I have some regrets for the things I have done, but my biggest regret is for the things I didn’t do.
Lemonade Scones
Ingredients
- 1 cup Heavy Cream
- 1 cup Lemonade
- 3 cups Self Raising Flour
- Pinch of Salt
- Flour, for dusting
- Jam to serve
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Sift the flour into a large bowl. Add the cream and then the lemonade.
Quickly (but gently!) combine the ingredients into a dough in order to trap as many bubbles as possible into the mixture.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and, once again gently, roll it out to a thickness of about 1 inch.
Cut your scones out with a cutter. Arrange evenly on a tray and bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden. Serve with jam.
