Momma Said for March 25, 2014

It looks as if Old Man Winter is going to hang on for as long as he can. Calling for snow again, so I guess March will go out like a lion. It is hard to believe that three months of this year are already gone. It was a long cold winter but with all the drama that occurred with the bitter cold and the Arctic Vortex rushing down on us it reminded me of the movie “The Day After Tomorrow.”

I guess the Northwest is still digging out and I feel for all of them. I also saw in the news about the droughts in the Midwest with the tumbleweeds piling everywhere. They are using snow plows to push them away from homes because of the fire hazard. We are so lucky to live in such a diverse area in West Virginia, yes we receive our share of snow, but other natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes are not on our priority list.

Our state is so beautiful, rugged and serene at the same time. You can view giant rocks jutting out of the ground for hundreds of feet at Seneca Rocks and at the same time watch a beautiful river flow by at its base. Fly down the slopes of one of our ski resorts or fish for native trout in a stream, miles away from anyone.

Momma Said, “This is a great place to live and raise a family.” She did it and we had many outings in our day. Eating hotdogs cooked over an open fire, roasted marshmallows, that always seemed to find their way into someone’s hair, and the potluck dinners mom would cook up for us. The great outdoors was a big part of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I wish everyone could have the opportunity to experience just a portion of what our state has to offer.

Spring is in the air, or so I have been told, so Momma Said, “Break out of the old Igloo and get a breath of fresh air.” Take the dog for a walk or jog around the block, anything to shake off the effects of one of the coldest winters in recent history. Momma Said, “Hasta la vista Baby.”
