post card Albert WVThis is a generic postcard made available to allow a location to have their name printed in the blank spot. These were often found in a variety of types; some had the name written in glitter for example.

The card brings greeting from Albert, WV. Originally know as Albert, the name was changed to Douglas in 1965 by The Board on Geographic Names. Even with the name change, the post office continued to carry the name Albert. Some information on the piano player at The Sunset Inn; his name was Howard Garnes. He would do some odd jobs, tune piano’s or go into homes and play the piano to earn a little money to get some drink. Homer Fansler would sing while Howard played and at times they sang together. Mr. Garnes did play the piano at the Rosendorf Pentecost Church. He lived in a coach from trains that ran up the Dryfork in the bottom where Frank Roberts built a home. Mr. Garnes moved to Ohio and it is believed that he passed away in a nursing home there. Seems like several folks lived in these coaches.

The Sunset Inn was first named the Magnolia as two magnolia trees stood by. Once the Magnolias were gone, the name was changed to The Sunset Inn. If anyone has a picture of The Sunset or the Magnolia, it would be nice for us to feature it. Ideas or comments contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
