This week’s photo is of Haskel and Nellie Goldie Schilansky. Haskel Schilansky (1902-1991) was a son of Barney and Sarah Cohen Schilansky. He lived in Thomas moving to Parsons to operate his own grocery store. He retired from the State of West Virginia; having worked in the Weights and Measures Department. Lil Schilansky, a schoolteacher, and prominent figure in Thomas, was one of his sisters along with Bess Lebby and a brother Frank. I am not sure about other members of the family. Nellie Goldie Poling Schilansky was a native of Barbour County. She was a taxicab driver in Baltimore before moving to Tucker County and marrying Haskel. She played the piano and organ for the Goldenaires. She passed July 21, 1990 at the age of 67. Ideas, comments, suggestions or photos to share contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
