This is a picture of Robert “Bob” Felton. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in November of 1942. It is believed that this picture was taken at Camp Allan in Norfolk, Virginia where he was assigned for six weeks of intensive training for the 59th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees).  In 1943-44 he spent a year in Hawaii helping to construct a Naval Air Station and a Marine Camp. He also served at Pearl Harbor and participated in the invasion of Guam in the summer of 1944, after most of the fighting had subsided. He was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945. He returned to Tucker County where he was a farmer and longtime educator. He was the Assistant Superintendent of Tucker County Schools when he died in August of 1979 at the age of 60.  Ideas, suggestions, comments, photos to share contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
