Eastern’s Accreditation Reaffirmed By Regional Agency

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) reaffirmed the accreditation of Eastern WV Community and Technical College earlier this year.

The HLC evaluates and accredits degree-granting colleges and universities on behalf of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, one of six regional higher education accrediting agencies recognized by the US Department of Education.

“The February 25th decision from HLC’s Institutional Actions Council provides evidence of Eastern’s commitment to its mission,” said Eastern President Charles ‘Chuck’ Terrell. “I am very proud and grateful to the faculty, staff, and administrators for their contributions in preparing for the reaccreditation visit.”

A Visiting Team composed of college educators from across the north central region visited Eastern for three days last October, examining the college’s classrooms, policies and practices, and interviewing students, faculty, staff, administration and Board of Governors. They also received feedback from community representatives.

Eastern prepared for the visit with a two-year self-study process that included an in-depth, honest, data-driven evaluation of the college as a whole, and a comprehensive review of its mission.

“The Self-Study report acknowledged the dedication from Eastern personnel and students to the College’s mission, and a strong collegiality that mirrors a family-like relationship,” Terrell noted. An “impressive number of activities and associations” reflected Eastern’s “engagement and service to its community and region.

“The College is grateful for the support and engagement from the communities and partners located in its service district,” he said.

For current students, and for those thinking about registering at Eastern, the college’s reaffirmed accreditation status provides assurance about the quality of Eastern’s programs and instructors.

Accreditation also tells employers that job applicants who present Eastern credits on their records, or who have earned diplomas, certificates and skill set completion, enter the workplace prepared with knowledge and skills acquired at a college on a level with other institutions of recognized quality that meet the national standards set by the federal Department of Education.

North Central’s region includes nearly 10,000 public and private schools across 19 states.

Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College is a comprehensive and equal opportunity community and technical college that makes educational resources accessible to the families, communities, and employers of Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, Pendleton and Tucker counties. Eastern is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
