Garrett College also records 5% increase in winter credit headcount

McHenry, MD – Garrett College’s winter session opened last week with a 10.1 percent increase in credit hours and a 5.7 percent increase in headcount compared to the same point in last year’s winter session.

The College welcomed 93 students, taking a total of 294 credit hours, for the winter session. Last year, winter session opened with 88 students taking 267 credit hours.

“Winter session is by far our smallest credit semester each year, but it’s still a good sign that we’re seeing significant growth in that semester,” said Dr. Robert “JR” Kerns, GC’s dean of student affairs. “The winter session growth continues a very positive trend – Garrett has been one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state since the end of the pandemic.”

So far, the College has recorded double-digit percentage growth in credit hours for each semester of the current academic year. GC’s credit hours rose 17.5 percent in summer and 12.7 percent in the fall.

The spring semester, which starts January 21st, is the final credit semester of the 2025-26 academic year.
