FullSizeRenderSteven P. Sponaugle, 21, was recognized for his academic achievements Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the annual Awards Convocation which was held at the Harper-McNeeley Auditorium on the campus of Davis & Elkins College. Dr. R. Carol Cochran, Chair of the Division of Nursing, presented Sponaugle with an award for his scholastic success while a Nursing student at Davis & Elkins College. Dr. Joseph Roidt, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Scott Goddard, Vice President of Student Affairs, presented Sponaugle with the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.

“The Algernon Sydney Sullivan and Mary Mildred Sullivan Awards honor the lives of service of the husband and wife for whom they are named. The awards have been given out since 1890 to recognize individuals whose ‘nobility of character’ and service to others sets them apart as examples to all.” (The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, 2015)

Sponaugle graduates from Davis & Elkins College on May 16, 2015 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. He is recognized in the 2015 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges and currently serves as President of the Davis & Elkins Student Nurses’ Association. During his time at Davis & Elkins, he travelled to Ecuador, South America for 15 days as part of a Winter Term Biology course, has been named to the Dean’s List, and represented Davis & Elkins College at the 2014 College Ethics Symposium in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Sponaugle is a part-time Emergency Medical Technician for Tucker County EMS and is a member of Parsons Volunteer Fire Department, Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and Riverview Chapel Church. He is a 2012 graduate and Salutatorian of Tucker County High School. He plans to continue his education by enrolling in an RN to BSN program this Fall. He also plans to bridge from RN to Paramedic and remain an employee of Tucker County EMS while also working as an RN. Steven is the son of Steve (Dee) & Connie Sponaugle and Rick & Dana Corcoran of Parsons.
