Tucker County was well represented this season at the state golf match at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, as seniors Nate Davis and Drew Simmons individually qualified for the second consecutive season.
After the first day of play, Davis found himself in fifth place with a round of 86 (+15), while Simmons sat in 33rd place with a score of 101 (+30). Jude Walker of Wirt County High School topped the leaderboard with a round of 74 (+3).
Unfortunately, on the second day of the match, Davis fell out of the top 10 and missed out on first-team All-State honors. He finished 13th overall with a two-day total of 179 (+37). Simmons moved up five spots from his first-day position to finish 28th overall, shooting a two-day total of 194 (+52).
Walker maintained his position atop the leaderboard to claim the Single-A championship with a two-day total of 154 (+12).
With the season’s conclusion, a chapter in Tucker County golf comes to a close, as both Davis and Simmons are seniors. The team will look to continue its tradition of qualifying for the state match at Oglebay next season with the next generation of golfers.
