By: Adam Freeman

The Bears of Davis Thomas played two varsity matchups last week. DT started the week against Romney Middle School from Hampshire County. The Bears were knotted with the Pioneers at 8 points each after the first quarter and trailed by only one point, 20–19, at halftime.

The third quarter is when the game began to get away from the Bears, as Romney outscored them 22–11 in the period to pull ahead 42–30 heading into the fourth. The Bears continued to battle but couldn’t close the gap as they fell 61–37. Elijah O’Brien led the Bears with 12 points, Nolan Luzier followed with 10 points, and Kevin Kerr and Jarrett Dearborn added 6 points apiece.

Davis Thomas wrapped up the week with an eighth-grade night matchup against the Kasson Eagles. DT jumped on the Eagles early, scoring 23 points to start the game compared to Kasson’s 11. The Bears continued to control the game before the break, leading 35–19 and 44–31 going into the fourth quarter. Davis Thomas finished the game strong to secure the 51–35 victory. Luzier was the Bears’ leading scorer that night with 15 points, O’Brien followed closely behind with 12, and Kerr and Dearborn contributed 10 points each.

DT will return home for a matchup with Bruceton Middle School on Tuesday, February 17.
