girls on the run

The goal of the Girls on the Run program is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. On Saturday, May 10, in Elkins’ Riverbend Park 40 girls inspired our community to do better, to try harder and to be better at the third annual Roundhouse Rumble.

Thirty girls aged 10 and under finished the 5K race with the support and encouragement of their families, coaches and teammates. Many community members came out to run along with them, race each other and support the program.

Joel Wolpert was the first across the line in 17:14 and Heather Robertson took first for the women (and second overall) in 23:42. Lily Miller was the youngest finisher at six years old, in 34:07. Her sister Gracie Miller, who finished five minutes ahead of her, ran back onto the course to encourage her sister as she finished.

The Girls on the Run program uses running to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. The Roundhouse Rumble 5K is the season finale for all the local Girls on the Run programs where the girls get to share their 5K experience with our entire community. The opportunity allows inspiration to flow both directions — from the community to the girls and from the girls to the community. Consider joining us next Mother’s Day weekend in Elkins, to find inspiration, share enthusiasm and connect with your community!
