HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team opened Sectional Playoffs at home against Harman on Thursday February 22nd. The Lady Mt. Lions cruised to the 87-16 victory to advance to the Sectional Championship.
Tucker County exploded to a 17-0 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Mt. Lions continued to dominate in the second quarter as they outscored Harman 18-5 to make the halftime score 35-5 Tucker County.
A 25-1 advantage in the third quarter pushed the Tucker County lead to 60-6 after three quarters. The reserve players finished the game in the fourth to make the final score 87-16 Tucker County.
The Lady Mt. Lions placed 5 players in double figures led by Riley Evans off the bench with 17 points. Sydney Moore added 13 points and Cecily Strawderman chipped in with 12 points for the Lady Mt. Lions. Dominique Meadows and Kelcee James netted 10 point each for Tucker County also in the win. Kelcee James led Tucker County with 8 rebounds and Aliyah Plum pulled down 7 boards.
PETERSBURG – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled Petersburg on Saturday February 24th to compete against Moorefield in the Sectional Championship. Tucker County outpaced the Lady Yellowjackets in 3 of 4 quarters to pick up the Sectional Championship by the final score of 48-25.
The pace of the game was slowed down by Moorefield as the Lady Mt. Lions led after one quarter 9-3. Tucker County outscored Moorefield 14-6 in the second to push the halftime score to 23-9 Tucker County.
Moorefield made a run in the third quarter as they outshot the Lady Mt. Lions by a slim 11-8 points to make the score after three 31-20 Tucker County. The Lady Mt. Lions then got the pace back to their liking in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 17-5 to get the victory by the final score of 48-25.
Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 13 points and Terra Kuhn had 12 points for the Lady Mt. Lions. Sydney Moore added 8 points and McKinley Murphy chipped in with 7 points for Tucker County in the win. Kuhn led Tucker County with 7 rebounds, 4 steals and Cecily Strawderman also had 4 steals in the victory.
Tucker County(22-1) will now host Notre Dame tonight Wednesday February 28th for the Region 2 Co-Regional Championship. The winner of tonight’s game will qualify for the WV State Tournament next week in Charleston. The game tonight will be broadcast on 94.7FM WELK.
