TUCKER COUNTY BOYS FALL AT LINCOLN AND WIN AT TRINITY

SHINNSTON – The Mt. Lions Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Class “AA” Lincoln on Monday February 19th. Tucker County struggled to score the whole night and could not mount a comeback to fall in the contest 61-52.


The home standing Cougars came out on fire as they scored 26 points in the opening quarter to lead the Mt. Lions after one quarter 26-11. Tucker County fought back in the second quarter to cut into the Lincoln lead as the Mt. Lions outpaced the home team 14-12 to make the halftime score 38-25 Lincoln.

The third quarter was even as both teams played some good defense and the offense struggled. The scoring was 11 points for each team to give Lincoln the 49-36 lead after three. The Mt. Lions tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter as they cut into the Cougars lead but the Tucker County 16-12 point advantage in the fourth quarter was not enough. Lincoln picked up the win by the final score of 61-52.

Tucker County was led by Jeffrey Snyder with 12 points, 9 rebounds and Corrick Ambrose added 11 points, 9 rebounds in the Mt. Lions loss. Brandon Zirk chipped in with 11 points also for Tucker County in the road loss.

MORGANTOWN – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Class “A” #6 Trinity on Wednesday February 21st. Tucker County came out strong in the third quarter and held off a late comeback to pick up the quality road victory by the final score of 71-63.

The game went back and forth in the first quarter as the host Warriors led by 2 points after one quarter. Tucker County outpaced Trinity in the second quarter as the Mt. Lions took a slim 31-30 lead into the locker room at the halftime intermission.

The third quarter belonged to Tucker County as the visitors outscored the home team 20-15 to push the Mt. Lions lead to 51-45 after three. The fourth quarter would also belong to Tucker County as Trinity cut the Mt. Lions lead to 3 points at 60-57 with 1:34 left in the contest. The Warriors would not get any closer as Tucker County made their shots and foul shots down the stretch to pick up the big road win by the final score of 71-63.

Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County with 24 points, 7 rebounds and Brandon Zirk added 15 points, 3 assists. Wesley Snyder and Alec Cummings had 13 points each for the Mt. Lions in the victory.

Tucker County(11-10) will host the winner of Union/Pendleton County on Thursday March 1st at 7pm. The winner of that game will travel to Petersburg on Saturday March 3rd at 7pm to compete in the Sectional Championship. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
