PHILIPPI – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team traveled to “AAA” #8 Philip Barbour on Wednesday January 12th. The Lady Mt. Lions built a lead in the first quarter and then held off the Lady Colts in the second half to get the big win on the road by the final score of 55-51.
Tucker County came out strong in the first quarter as the Lady Mt. Lions led after one quarter of play 17-10. Philip Barbour fought back in the second quarter as they outscored Tucker County 16-12 in the quarter to make the halftime score 29-26.
The third quarter was played even as both teams battled in the period. The Lady Colts edged the Lady Mt. Lions 12-11 in the third quarter to put the score to 41-38 Tucker County after three. The fourth quarter was a battle throughout as Tucker County would hold the advantage 15-13 in the fourth quarter to hold off the Lady Colts and give the Lady Mt. Lions the big road win by the final score of 55-51.
Kadie Colebank led Tucker County with 28 points, 18 rebounds, 4 blocks and Jayden Kuhn added 12 points for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. Macy Helmick added 5 points and 5 assists for Tucker County. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team fell in the first game 39-33. The Tucker County JV picked up a road win on Monday Jan.10th at Keyser by the score of 29-15.
DUNMORE – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Pocahontas County on Friday January 14th for a JV and Varsity contest.
Tucker County built a quick lead in the first quarter and they never looked back as they take home a 57-26 road victory.
The first quarter belonged to the Lady Mt. Lions as they raced out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter of play. Pocahontas County fought back in the second to edge Tucker County 15-12 in the second to make the halftime score 31-19 Lady Mt. Lions.
The Tucker County defense then stepped it up as they held the Lady Warriors to 2 points in the third quarter while the Lady Mt. Lions score 18 points in the third to expand the lead to 49-21 after three. Tucker County then controlled the fourth quarter 8-5 to make the final score 57-26 Tucker County.
Kadie Colebank led the Lady Mt. Lions in scoring with 27 points. Colebank also pulled down team best 10 rebounds. Jayden Kuhn added 12 points for Tucker County. Macy Helmick chipped in with 7 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. The Tucker County JV team also won their contest 38-28.
HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball teams finished off the busy week with a home game against Pendleton County on Saturday January 15th. The game was a back and forth battle with Tucker County pulling away in the fourth to get the home win 56-50.
Both teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter as Pendleton County held a slight lead after one quarter 16-15. The second quarter was even as each team scored 17 points to make the halftime score 33-32 Lady Wildcats.
Tucker County would edge Pendleton County in scoring in the third quarter 9-6 to give the Lady Mt. Lions the lead after three 41-39. In the fourth quarter Tucker County had to navigate through some foul trouble, but they were able to outscore Pendleton County 15-11 in the fourth to take the victory by the final score of 56-50.
Kadie Colebank had a huge night for the Lady Mt. Lions as she scored 28 points and collected 26 rebounds. Macy Helmick and Jayden Kuhn added 9 points each for Tucker County in the win. Jacey Davis pulled down 8 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions and Helmick collected 5 boards in the win for Tucker County. In the JV game the Lady Mt. Lions got the win by the score of 38-24.
Tucker County(10-2) will return to action Thursday January 20th at St. Marys High School in Pleasants County as they face off against Class “A” #2 Cameron in the St Marys Tournament at 6pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then play Saturday January 22nd against host St. Marys or Ritchie County in the consolation(1:30pm) or championship game(5:30pm). For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
