LADY MT. LIONS OPEN SEASON WITH WIN OVER NOTRE DAME 64-22

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team opened the season at home last Friday December 1st against Notre Dame. The Lady Mt. Lions opened the game with a 13-0 run and never looked back in route to a 64-22 win.


Tucker County raced out to an early lead and the defense forced the visiting Lady Irish into turnovers early as the first quarter ended with score 13-5 Tucker County. In the second quarter the defense continued to dominate for the Lady Mt. Lions as they held Notre Dame to just 3 points in the second and Tucker County scored 21 points to extend their lead at the half to 34-8.

The third quarter would display the Tucker County defense once again as the Lady Mt. Lions outpaced the Lady Irish in the period 17-5 to push the Tucker County lead to 51-13. In the final quarter of the night the Lady Mt. Lions outpaced Notre Dame 13-9 to make the final score Tucker County 64 Notre Dame 22.

McKinley Murphy led Tucker County with 4 three point field goals and 16 points. Sydney Nestor had 10 points, 12 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists for the Lady Mt. Lions and Terra Kuhn added 10 points, 6 rebounds in the win. Sydney Moore and Cecily Strawderman chipped in 8 points each and Dominque Meadows collected 7 rebounds for Tucker County. Notre Dame was led by Taylor Martino with 12 points.

Tucker County(1-0) will travel to Martinsburg on Saturday December 11th at 3pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then travel to Glenville State College to play a first round tournament game against Fayetteville at 4pm. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
