Lady Mt. Lions Open The Season With Win Over Petersburg 56-49

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ basketball team opened their season at home last Friday Dec 6th with a win against “AA” opponent Philip-Barbour 48-34.

The game started with both teams struggling as defense and missed shots dominated the first quarter and Tucker County held the lead after the first quarter 12-8. In the second quarter the Lady Mt. Lions started to pull away from the Lady Colts as the host held Philip-Barbour to just 2 points in the quarter and scored 17 points to take a 29-10 lead into locker room at the half.

In the third quarter the Lady Mt. Lions continued to pull away as they outscored the Lady Colts in the quarter to build a 41-15 lead after three. Coach Ambrose pulled his starters in the third quarter and the reserve players finished out the game in the fourth quarter. Philip-Barbour outscored the Tucker County reserves in the final quarter to make the score closer, but the Lady Mt. Lions got the opening game victory 48-34.

Stephanie Betler led Tucker County with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Elizabeth Nichols finished with 8 points and Mariah Bowley had 7 points and 3 steals. Savannah Ambrose added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks and Madison Mullenax had 6 points. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team also got the win on the night 50-34.
