LADY MT. LIONS WIN SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT HOME OVER UNION

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted Union for the Region 2 Section 1 Championship on Saturday afternoon February 26th.  The Lady Mt. Lions got off to a quick start and pulled away in the second and third quarter to capture the Sectional Championship over Union 63-43.

In the first period the Lady Lions started the game well as they led 7-0 halfway through the first quarter.  The Lady Tigers fought back to get within 15-10 after the first quarter come to an end.  Union got within 2 points of Tucker County 17-15 with 7:00 left in the second quarter.  The visiting team would not get any closer the rest of the game as Tucker County took control and outscored Union 16-4 through the end of the second quarter to make the halftime score 33-19 Lady Mt. Lions.

The third quarter belonged to the home team also as Tucker County scored 13 points compared to Union’s 9 points in the third to extend the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 46-28 at the start of the fourth quarter.  Tucker County continued to dominate in the fourth as the Lady Mt. Lions built a 56-30 lead with 3:38 left in the game.  The Lady Tigers made a push to cut into the lead, but Tucker County held off the comeback attempt to capture the victory by the score of 63-43.

Senior, Jayden Kuhn led Tucker County with 21 points, 4 steals.  Junior, All-State player from a year ago, Kadie Colebank filled up the stat line for Tucker County with 16 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 block shots.  Sophomore, Ericka Zirk scored 9 points off the bench and pulled down 6 rebounds and Sophomore, Macy Helmick dished out 8 assists for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win.

 

Tucker County(17-6) will host Tygarts Valley tonight March 2nd at 7pm for the Co-Regional Championship.  The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the WV State Tournament next week in Charleston.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
