Tucker Valley’s girl’s basketball team had two matchups this past week. Tucker Valley took on Central Preston to start the week; the Wildcats found themselves in a tight one from the start, as they trailed 5–4 to begin play. Central stretched the lead to double digits before the half at 16–6 and held a 20–11 advantage going into the fourth. This is when Tucker made its run, outscoring Preston 12–4 in the final frame, but it just wasn’t enough as they fell by one point, 24–23. Maci Owens led the way with 14 points, Marlee Evans had 4 points, and Kosi Slaughbaugh and Ally Wright both finished with 2 points.
The Lady Wildcats finished the week with a home game against the Petersburg Vikings. Tucker dug a hole early, trailing 16–4. They did close the gap slightly before the half, as Petersburg led by 10 at 22–12. The Wildcats gained some ground in the third, outscoring the Vikings by one at 7–6, but Petersburg still held the lead at 28–19. The Wildcats continued to battle, but the score fell short as Petersburg took the win 36–25. Mia Lambert led the Wildcats with 9 points, Evans scored 6 points, and Owens finished with 5 points. The Lady Wildcats will play again on Friday, January 23rd, at Pendleton County, with tipoff set for 6:00 p.m.
