HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted the Sectional Championship against East Hardy on Thursday March 3rd.  The visiting Cougars played hard and kept the game close, but Tucker County pulled away late to capture the win and the Region 1 Section 1 Championship by the score of 40-31.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as the Mt. Lions held the slim lead after one quarter 9-8.  The second quarter was also close as neither team could sustain offense as Tucker County outscored the Cougars 9-8 in the second to make the halftime score 18-16 Tucker County.

The Mt. Lions built a little lead in the third as Tucker County outpaced East Hardy 10-7 to put the score to 28-23 after three quarters.  East Hardy then responded in the fourth as they fought back to get within 1 point at 30-29 with 3:30 left in the game.  The Mt. Lions then responded with a 6-0 run with under 2 minutes to play and Tucker County made their foul shots to get the win by the final score of 40-31.  The win by the Mt. Lions gave them the Sectional Championship and allows them to host the Co-Regional game tonight Wednesday March 9th.

The Mt. Lions were led in scoring by Haden Wamsley with 10 points, 7 rebounds and Maddox Anderson added 9 points, 5 assists.  Ashton Lycliter led Tucker County in rebounds with 8 boards and she chipped in with 6 points for the Mt. Lions in the win.

Tucker County (22-2) will host the Co-Regional Championship tonight Wednesday March 9th against Tygarts Valley at 7pm.  The winner of this game will advance to the State Tournament on March 15th.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
