MT. LIONS DROP GAMES AT HOME TO NOTRE DAME AND SOUTHERN

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted Notre Dame on Wednesday January 29th.  Notre Dame built an early lead and the Mt. Lions could not complete the comeback as they fell in the contest by the final score of  68-54.

Notre Dame jumped out to a lead in the first and the Irish maintained a 19-9 lead after one quarter of play.  The second quarter would also belong to Notre Dame as they outscored the Mt. Lions 23-11 to push the Notre Dame lead to 42-20 at the halftime break.

Tucker County fought back in the third quarter as they outpaced Notre Dame 14-11 in the third to make the score 53-24 Irish after three quarters of play.  The Mt. Lions would control the fourth quarter 20-15, but Notre Dame got the victory by the final score of 68-54.

Zach Colebank led Tucker County with 18 points, 11 rebounds and Wyatt Betler added 16 points for the Mt. Lions in the loss.  The Tucker County JV team picked up the win over Notre Dame 74-58.

HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted Southern Garrett, on Friday January 31st.  Tucker County struggled to score the ball and the visiting Rams played well as Southern picked up the win by the score of 61-29.

The first quarter showed both teams struggle on offense as Southern pulled away slightly at the end of the first quarter for a 15-9 lead.  The visiting Rams then got their offense going in the second quarter as they outscored the Mt. Lions 19-4 to take a commanding 34-13 lead at halftime.

Southern would edge Tucker County in the third 16-12 to make the score 50-25 after three quarters.  The Mt. Lions then managed just 4 points in the fourth and the Rams scored 11 points to give Southern the win by the final score of 61-29.

Zach Colebank and Rudy Pennington led Tucker County in scoring with 9 points each.  Colebank also collected 9 rebounds for the Mt. Lions in the loss.  The Tucker County JV team fell in the first game by the score of 64-56.

Tucker County (2-12) will return to action on Thursday February 6th at East Hardy.  The Mt. Lions will then host Tygarts Valley in the WVHIT on Saturday February 8th with JV action starting at 5:45pm.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
