The #8 Tucker County Mt. Lions made the long trip north last Friday to take on the #1 team in Single A, the Maroon Knights of Wheeling Central Catholic. The Knights put Tucker in a deep hole early, returning two interceptions for touchdowns on back-to-back series, as well as scoring once on the offensive side of the ball.
Tucker did find the end zone by the end of the first period on a 1-yard plunge by QB Sam Marks to make the score 20-6. WCC would score twice more in the second period to stretch the gap even further to 34-6 going into halftime.
The Mt. Lions managed a safety late in the fourth to get back on the board, but the game was too far gone, as the private school from one of the largest cities in the state took the win over the small public school, 41-8.
Quarterback Sam Marks, who played his final game for the black and gold, finished 18-for-37 for 174 yards. Cade Rapp led the rushing attack with 15 carries for 57 yards, and fellow senior Reid Kisamore finished with 8 catches for 95 yards.
Tucker ended its season with an overall record of 7-5 and extended its streak of at least reaching the quarterfinal round to three seasons in a row.
