Tucker County Golf held back-to-back matches last week at Canaan Valley Resort. On Monday, they organized their first annual Tucker County Invitational, an 18-hole event with eight teams from Petersburg, Keyser, Hampshire, Moorefield, Pendleton County, Tygarts Valley, Pocahontas, and Tucker County.
Tucker County secured fourth position as a team, trailing behind Petersburg, Keyser, and the eventual winner, Hampshire. The team showcased a commendable performance throughout the match, with Senior Cayden Arnold finishing 8th overall with a solid round of 82.
The team expressed gratitude to Eric Wamsley of GS Millworks for his assistance in creating plaques for the event, Canaan Valley Resort Golf Club for their gracious hosting, and the Smokehouse Restaurant at Blackwater Falls for catering their meal after the match.
The following day, Tucker County returned to Canaan for their final match of the regular season and their Senior Night, honoring six senior golfers: Nathan Davis, Andrew Simmons, Cayden Arnold, Ethan Cummings, Cade Rapp, and Braylon Ward.
In the 9-hole match, the Mt. Lions had a great day on the course, finishing in second place by a single shot behind the winner, Tygarts Valley. Five team members achieved top-10 finishes, with Cade Rapp, Nate Davis, and Carter Wilt tying for 8th place with a round of 43. Drew Simmons and Cayden Arnold also tied for 3rd place with a round of 39!
Each senior golfer had the privilege of walking their final hole with their parents, cherishing the moment together. Tucker JV also participated in the event for their last match of the season.
As each team member shifts their focus to an excellent offseason to improve for next year, the Varsity team will resume play this Monday in the Class A Region II Championship at Canaan Valley. This 18-hole match will determine the top two teams, and the top two individuals, excluding those from the winning teams, will earn a spot in the State Golf Championship on Oct. 14-15.
