MOOREFIELD – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Moorefield on January 17th. The Mt. Lions jump out to a quick lead and never looked back as they cruised to 79-38 victory.
In the first quarter Tucker County got the advantage and led the home standing Yellowjackets 15-10 after one quarter. The Mt. Lions then exploded in the second quarter to outscore Moorefield 29-17 in the period to make the Tucker County lead 44-27 at the half.
Moorefield was not able to get back into the game in the second half as Tucker County cruised to the victory on the road by the final score of 79-38.
Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County with 18 points, 10 rebounds and Jeffrey Snyder added 13 points for the Mt. Lions in the win. Alec Cummings had 11 points while Luke Poling and Brandon Zirk chipped in 10 points each. The Tucker County JV team fell in overtime 47-44.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions host Pendleton County on Friday January 19th. Tucker County again got off to a good start and ran away with the game to get the victory 75-46.
The first quarter belonged to Tucker County as they outpaced the visiting Wildcats in the first quarter and the Mt. Lions led after one 21-8. Tucker County added to their lead in the second as the home standing Mt. Lions outshot Pendleton County 24-14 in the second to make the halftime score 45-22.
The Wildcats would fight back in the third as they outscored Tucker County 14-11 in the quarter to cut the Mt. Lions lead to 56-36. The final quarter was controlled by Tucker County as the home team score 19 points and held Pendleton County to 10 points to make the final score 75-46 Tucker County.
Alec Cummings led Tucker County with 17 points. Corrick Ambrose and Brandon Zirk added 14 points each for the Mt. Lions. Welsey Snyder reached double figures for Tucker County with 10 points and Jeffrey Snyder led the Mt. Lions in rebounding with 9 boards. The Mt. Lions JV team fell in the first game of the night 46-35.
HAMBLETON – Tucker County ended the busy week with a home game against Class “A” #1 ranked team Wheeling Central Catholic. The Maroon Knights exploded in the third quarter to break the game open and the visiting team took the win by the final score of 82-58.
In the first quarter both team traded baskets and the score was close at Wheeling Central held a slim 15-10 lead after one quarter of play. The Maroon Knights expanded their lead in the second quarter as they outpaced the Mt. Lions 28-21 to give Wheeling Central a 43-31 halftime lead.
The Maroon Knights then scored another 28 points in the third and held Tucker County to just 11 points to take a commanding 71-42 lead after three. The Mt. Lions outscored Wheeling Central in the fourth 16-11 but, they could not complete the comeback as Wheeling Central Catholic took home the win by the final score of 82-58.
Alec Cummings led Tucker County in scoring with 13 points. Brandon Zirk and Wesley Snyder added 12 points each for the Mt. Lions in the loss while Corrick Ambrose chipped in with 10 points, 10 rebounds. The Tucker County JV team fell in their contest 47-43.
