MT. LIONS WIN AT POCAHONTAS, FALL TO NOTRE DAME AND LINCOLN

DUNMORE – Tucker County traveled to Pocahontas County on Tuesday February 12th. Tucker County rallied in the fourth quarter to get the road victory over the Warriors by the final score of 53-50.

The first quarter went back and forth as both teams played well on defense and the Warriors held a slim 10-9 lead after one quarter of play. The Mt. Lions controlled the second quarter as they outscored Pocahontas County 16-10 in the second to make the halftime score 25-20 Tucker County.

The home standing Warriors responded with a run of their own in the third as they outshot the Mt. Lions 19-7 to give Pocahontas County a 39-32 lead after three quarters of play. The final quarter belonged to Tucker County as they rallied back after trailing by as many as 9 points in the fourth quarter. Corrick Ambrose hit a pair of 3-point baskets to get the Mt. Lions going as the visiting team outpaced the Warriors 21-11 to get the victory by the final score of 53-50.

Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County in scoring with 19 points and Jeffrey Snyder added 14 points for the Mt. Lions in the win. Cameron Wamsley chipped in with 10 points and collected 10 rebounds for Tucker County in the victory.

CLARKSBURG – The Mt. Lions hit the road again on Wednesday February 13th to play at Notre Dame. Tucker County played a great game on the road against the Class “A” #2 team, but the Mt. Lions fell in the contest by the final score of 68-58.

Notre Dame controlled the game early as they led Tucker County after one quarter of play 25-15. The Mt. Lions responded in the second quarter as they outscored the Irish 19-9 to make the score 36-34 Notre Dame at the halftime intermission.

Tucker County took the lead to start the third quarter, but Notre Dame responded with a run. The Irish outscored the Mt. Lions 13-9 in the third to make the score 49-43 Notre Dame after three quarters. In the fourth quarter Tucker County keep the score close, but the Irish outpaced the Mt. Lions 19-15 in the final quarter to give Notre Dame the victory by the final score of 68-58.

Jeffrey Snyder led Tucker County with 21 points and Corrick Ambrose added 14 points, 6 assists. Wyatt Betler added 9 points for the Mt. Lions as he hit 3 three point baskets on the night for Tucker County in the loss.

HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted Class “AA” Lincoln on Friday February 15th. Lincoln pulled away in third quarter and held off the Mt. Lions in the fourth quarter to give the visiting Cougars the road win by the final score of 52-46.

The game went back and forth in the first quarter as Lincoln held a slim 15-12 lead after one quarter. The Cougars pulled away to start the second quarter, but a late rally in the second by the Mt. Lions allowed Tucker County to outscore Lincoln in the second 11-8 to make the score 23-23 at the half.

The Cougars pulled away again in the third as they outshot Tucker County 17-8 in quarter number three to give Lincoln the 40-31 advantage at the end of the third quarter. The Mt. Lions fought back in the fourth quarter with a 14-12 edge, but that wasn’t enough as Lincoln took home the victory 52-46.

Jeffrey Snyder led Tucker County with 14 points and Corrick Ambrose added 14 points for the Mt. Lions in the loss. Rudy Pennington chipped in with 9 points off the bench for Tucker County and Cameron Wamsley collected 8 rebounds, 5 assists.

Tucker County(6-13) will travel to Pendleton County on Thursday February 21st for the last game of the regular season. The Mt. Lions will then start Sectional Playoffs next week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
