The Tucker County 3rd & 4th grade travel basketball team recently embarked on an exciting journey to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to compete at Rocky Top Sports World in the Bracket Sports National Championship. The tournament featured teams from three different states, giving the young Mt. Lions an opportunity to compete against some of the region’s top talent.
In their opening game on Saturday, Tucker County faced nationally ranked Patterson Elite. The Mt. Lions came out strong, controlling the first eight minutes of the game. Patterson Elite, however, found its rhythm and pulled away in the second half to earn a 36-13 victory.
The boys quickly regrouped for their second game, battling Mountain State Select in a hard-fought contest. The game remained close from start to finish, but Tucker County came up just short, falling 32-26.
On Sunday, Tucker County wrapped up tournament play against Phantom Elite. Once again, the Mt. Lions competed until the final buzzer in another closely contested matchup. Despite a determined effort, they were unable to overcome Phantom Elite, dropping the game 33-26.
While the results didn’t fall in their favor, the young men of Tucker County represented their community with outstanding attitude, effort, and coachability throughout the weekend. Their resilience and ambition suggest that they have a bright future ahead, one that all Mt. Lions fans should be excited for.
