The Tucker County Mountain Lions earned their first victory of the season in convincing fashion Friday night, pulling away from rival Elkins for a 56–41 win.
Tucker County came out with energy in the opening quarter, taking a 15–11 lead. The Mountain Lions continued to control the tempo in the second period, heading into halftime with a 24–20 advantage.
The game shifted decisively after the break as Tucker County turned up the defensive pressure. The Mountain Lions outpaced Elkins in the third quarter to build a 41–27 lead, creating separation that the Tigers could not overcome.
Tucker County maintained its momentum in the final period, closing out the contest with strong execution on both ends of the floor to secure the 56–41 victory.
Balanced scoring powered the Mountain Lions, with C. Arnold and L. Barb each scoring 11 points. E. Cummings added 10 points, helping Tucker County pull away late and celebrate a long-awaited win over their rival.
