MILL CREEK – The Mt. Lions Baseball team opened the season with a road game at Tygarts Valley on Monday March 26th. Tucker County battled, but the Bulldogs broke took the victory by the final score of 15-3.

Cameron Wamsley led the way at the plate for Tucker County as he went 2 for 2 for the game. Michael Gherman and Shayne Liller also had 1 hit each for the Mt. Lions. Gherman reach base on a double for his 1 hit. Head Coach Josh Evans said, “Our pitchers struggled as a whole in the first game appearance, walking 11 batters. It is hard to win when you give the other team free passes.”

KINGWOOD – Tucker County traveled to Preston on Saturday March 31st for a game against the “AAA” Knights. The Mt. Lions fell behind early and could not recover as they fell in the contest 15-5.

Tucker County gave up 6 runs in the first inning and then settled down. The Mt. Lions only gave up 1 run over the next 3 innings. The bats were moving well for Tucker County as they collected 8 hits to make the score 7-5 Preston in the 5th inning. Preston then got their bats going in the 5th to score 8 runs in the inning to end the game with the final score of 15-5. Michael Gherman, Shayne Liller, Cameron Wamsley and Byron Gidley all collected 2 hits each. Gherman, Liller and Gidley each hit a double on one of their hits. Michael Gherman was the starting pitcher, but he had to leave the game early as he was hit by a line drive while on the mound. Liller came in for relief to finish the game. Coach Evans was positive as he said, “We hit evenly with Preston, we just need to work on the small things and put together a whole game and we will be alright.”

Tucker County will return to action tonight April 4th vs Pendleton County at home and then they will travel to Pendleton County on Thursday April 5th. The Mt. Lions will then travel to Philip-Barbour on Friday April 6th with all 3 game starting at 5pm. For a complete schedule and more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
