HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted Pendleton County on Tuesday February 5th. Pendleton County held off Tucker County at the end of the game to capture a 54-51 road victory over the Mt. Lions.
Tucker County got off to a good start as they led after one quarter of play 12-11. The visiting Wildcats would outscore the Mt. Lions 19-8 in the second quarter to give Pendleton County a 30-20 lead at the halftime intermission.
Tucker County fought back in the third as they cut into the Wildcats lead as the Mt. Lions outpaced Pendleton County 17-12 to make the score 42-37 Pendleton County after three quarters. Tucker County also won the fourth quarter and the Mt. Lions had 2 shots from 3-point range at the end of the game to tie the game. The shots for Tucker County did not fall and the Mt. Lions fell to Pendleton County by the final score of 54-51.
Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County in scoring with 19 points. Jeffrey Snyder added 14 points for the Mt. Lions and Rudy Pennington chipped in with 7 points off the bench for Tucker County in the loss. Before the Varsity game the Tucker County coaches honored the Boys’ Basketball Seniors and Cheerleading Seniors. Those were as follows: Michaela Frame, Wyatt Hall, Corrick Ambrose, Raheim Lamb, Owen Poling, Cameron Wamsley and Jeffrey Snyder.
BAKER – Tucker County traveled to East Hardy on Thursday February 7th. The Mt. Lions led the entire game and Tucker County held off a late comeback from the Cougars to get the road win 52-49.
The first quarter belonged to Tucker County as they made shots and the Mt. Lions had the lead after one quarter of play 13-9. Tucker County controlled the second quarter as well and outshot East Hardy 17-12 in the second to make the halftime score 30-21 Tucker County.
The home standing Cougars then fought back in the third quarter as they outscored Tucker County 13-8 to cut the Mt. Lions lead to 38-34 after three quarters of play. The Cougars edged Tucker County in scoring in the fourth 15-14, but the Mt. Lions held off East Hardy to get the road victory by the final score of 52-49.
Jeffrey Snyder led Tucker County with 17 points. Wyatt Betler added 12 points for the Mt. Lions and Cameron Wamsley chipped in with 11 points for Tucker County in the win.
ELKINS – The Mt. Lions ended the busy week with a road game at Elkins on Saturday February 9th. Tucker County got down early to the homestanding Tigers and the Mt. Lions was unable to make a comeback as they fell in the contest 78-47.
Elkins controlled the first quarter as they jumped out to a lead and pushed the advantage up to 24-13 after one quarter of play. The second quarter was back and forth as the Tigers held a slight advantage 19-18 in the period to make the score 43-31 Elkins at the halftime intermission.
The third quarter was controlled by Elkins as they held Tucker County to 7 points and scored 17 points to push the Tigers lead to 60-38 after three quarters of play. Elkins then outpaced the Mt. Lions 18-9 in the fourth quarter to make the final score 78-47 Elkins.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Jeffrey Snyder with 14 points. Corrick Ambrose and Cameron Wamsley added 9 points each for the Mt. Lions in the loss.
Tucker County(5-11) will travel to Notre Dame tonight Wednesday February 13th. The Mt. Lions will then host Lincoln on Friday February 15th and then they will travel to Southern, MD on Monday February 18th. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
