HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions played the first game of the Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity games doubleheader on Thursday Jan 30th. Tucker County used 20-4 scoring advantage in the second quarter to run by the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs 71-34.

In the first quarter it looked like these teams haven’t played a game in the last 13 days as both teams struggled as the visiting Bulldogs had the lead after the first quarter 11-10. The Mt. Lions came out in the second quarter and picked up the defensive intensity as they forced some turnovers and outscored Tygarts Valley 20-4 in the second quarter to take a 31-15 lead into the half.

The third quarter showed more Tucker County defense as the host team once again exploded for 20 points while holding the Bulldogs to just 8 points and the Mt. Lions led after three 51-23. In the fourth quarter the reserve players finished the game for Tucker County and the home team got the win by the final score of 71-34.

Ian Nichols and Austin Zirk paced the Mt. Lions with 15 points each. Mitchell Mason finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Nichols added 8 rebounds for Tucker County
