MOOREFIELD – The Mt. Lions Basketball team took to the road for their 5th consecutive road game at Moorefield on Tuesday January 3rd. Tucker County jumped out to an early lead, but needed a dramatic comeback in the foruth quarter to pull out the victory 49-47.
The Mt. Lions stormed out in the opening quarter to get the lead, but the Yellowjackets fought back late in the first quarter to cut into the lead as Tucker County led after one 16-12. Moorefield came out focused in the second quarter and the Mt. Lions offense went cold. The Yellowjackets held Tucker County to just 6 points in the second quarter and scored 10 points of their own to tie the score at the half 22-22.
Moorefield came out of the locker room in the third ready to play as they outpaced the Tucker County team 13-9 and led the Mt. Lions 35-31 after three quarters of play. The Yellowjackets built a 8 point lead in the fourth quarter, but the Tucker County team fought back late in the game to surge ahead as they outscored Moorefield 18-12 in the final quarter to pick up the narrow road win 49-47.
Jakob Cousin led Tucker County with 14 points, 12 rebounds and Kordell Fulton added 12 points for the Mt. Lions. Josh Kincaid collected 8 points and Wesley Snyder had 7 points in the win. The Tucker County JV team got the win also 43-15.
Tucker County(5-3) were scheduled to host Preston on Tuesday January 10th. The Mt. Lions will then travel to Keyser on Thursday January 12th and then they will return home the very next night Friday January 13th to entertain Elkins for a JV/Varsity contest. The JV game will tip at 5:45pm with the varsity game to follow.
