Tucker County dominates Petersburg For 42-0 win

PETERSBURG – Tucker County traveled to Grant County last Friday October 31st to take on longtime “AA” rival Petersburg. The Mt. Lions scored on their first four possessions and never looked back. Tucker County led 28-0 at the half and scored two more times in the third quarter and held the Vikings scoreless to get the victory on the road 42-0.

Petersburg received the opening kick, but could not move the ball and punted the ball back to Tucker County. The Mt. Lions wasted no time as a 42 yard punt return from Michael Callaway gave the ball to Tucker County at the Vikings 16 yard line. Daniel Kisamore then connected with Logan Fridley 3 plays later for a 13 yard touchdown pass to put the visitors up early. The extra point kick was good by Callaway to put the score to 7-0 with 8:57 left in the first. Another punt by Petersburg on their next possession gave the ball back to the Mt. Lions. Callaway then broke free for a 53 yard run and 2 plays later Callaway score on a 13 yard touchdown run with 6:16 left in the first quarter. The extra point kick was good to make the score 14-0 Tucker. The Vikings next possession showed some promise as they picked up a first down, but a big hit by Fridley knocked the ball loose and Tucker County recovered the fumble at the Petersburg 30. The Mt. Lions would then strike again on a 12 yard touchdown run by Kisamore with 2:24 left in the first. After the extra point kick Tucker led 21-0. Things just got worse for the home team as they fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Mt. Lions recovered in Vikings territory. Kisamore and Fridley would hook up again 3 plays later on a 41 yard touchdown pass and catch with 1:03 left in the first. The extra point was good to extend the Tucker lead to 28-0.

The scoring slowed in the second quarter as both teams could not get the offense moving. Petersburg did string together a drive after they recovered a Mt. Lions fumble at the Tucker County 30. The Vikings drove the ball down to the Tucker County 4 yard line late in the second quarter, but fumbled the ball back to the Mt. Lions on a 1st and Goal play. Tucker County then ran out the first half clock and took a 28-0 lead into the locker room.

Tucker County received the opening kick and pick up where they left off in the first quarter. On the second play from scrimmage in the third quarter Kisamore hooked up with Fridley again on a 71 yard touchdown pass to put the Mt. Lions up 35-0 after the extra point with 11:06 left in the third. The Vikings then put together a 6 play drive that was stopped when Tucker County’s Dillon Husk scooped up the Petersburg fumble and raced 71 yards for the touchdown. The extra point kick was good again by Callaway and Tucker County extended the lead to 42-0 with 6:16 left in the third quarter.

The reserve players finished out the game for Tucker County in the fourth quarter and Petersburg failed to score late in the contest giving the Mt. Lions the shutout victory 42-0.

Logan Fridley turned in a great performance for Tucker County with 136 yards receiving on 4 receptions. Daniel Kisamore was 6 of 7 passing for 143 yards and Michael Callaway added 70 yards rushing on 8 carries. The Mt. Lions outgained the Vikings in the contest 290 to 148 in total yards.

Tucker County(4-5) will travel to Fairmont State University this Friday Nov 7th to face Notre Dame in the last game of the regular season.
